DIY Wallpaper Tips & Tricks no one told you | leave it to Joy

We decided shortly after moving in to our house that a little wall in our dining area would be perfect for a trendy accent wallpaper. So the research began! Unfortunately we had to learn a few things from our own experience as the internet & our friends didn’t mention a few of these. It really did turn out amazingly well! I love it, it really compliments our rustic Farmhouse Dining Table which is a DIY for only $200! Check out the post here.

DIY Starfish Framed Mirrors $20 CAD

Starfish, Pallet wood, DIY, Mirror, frame, pallet frame, wall artThis summer while I was learning how to use my Kreg Jig I made several frames out of some scrap pallets that were lying around. I knew I wanted to DIY some wall art. I originally wanted to put the starfish inside the frame but my centre hole was too small (poor planning on my part). However, I really like how they turned out! Find my Kreg Jig Tutorial here.

DIY Christmas Card Display | leave it to Joy

It’s getting close to Christmas, and I love displaying all the cards I get from my family and friends; but I hate the clutter. A few years ago I found a really great idea on Martha Stewart’s website but I didn’t have a good spot for it to go. Now I do. Check out Martha’s idea here.

DIY Christmas Tree Skirt for $10 CAD | leave it to Joy

Last Christmas I made this little tree skirt, from an IKEA blanket that cost around $10 CAD.  I cut it into triangles and matched up the ends and sewed them into a round skirt.  Remember to leave a gap so you can easily get it on and off the tree. I tucked the tails inside, and top stitched them so that they don’t pop out.

DIY Christmas Wreath | leave it to Joy

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas – everywhere I go. Especially at my house, this weekend all my Christmas décor will go up! Starting with my latest DIY.

I was inspired by a DIY I found on Pinterest over a year ago, click here to see it. Personally I like mine better. I spent $40 on the materials and I have lots of leftover ribbon and burlap to use throughout the season and on other DIYs. After I finished it I found a similar style wreath at Homesense, and it was about $50. So I think I did ok.

DIY Pine Cone Centre Pieces | leave it to Joy

I’m having a little dinner party in two days and one thing on my to-do list was to make a centre piece. I got these little vases for $2 each at my local dollar store. The candles were on sale at Target 4 for $3. And I got the pine cones from my local park – for free. (MAN I LOVE FREE!)

DIY Classroom Throw Cushions | leave it to Joy

One Saturday afternoon I got a random text message from my sister-in-law “would you be interested in helping me make pillow cases for some throw cushions?” To which I responded with a “OF COURSE!!” I love to sew but I need a little help getting started. She is a new teacher, and looking for a ways to make her budget stretch and still make the classroom a fun place for the kids.

DIY Stick Frame Art for $20 CAD

Stick, Frame, DIY, wall art, cheap, decor, frugal, DIY decor,

This DIY was inspired by Curbly’s Easy Framed Branches.

I couldn’t get this pin out of my head, I had to do this DIY. I looked for cheap frames I could re-purpose for several months, I didn’t want to spend too much and so was avoiding buying something brand new. I was looking at second hand stores, liquidation stores and in my mother’s basement without luck. I found this gem at Michael’s on super clearance for $15.00 CAD…. FIFTEEN DOLLARS.
